Writing Reviews With Promotion In Mind
Product reviews are useful to have on one’s website, particularly if one is an online merchant. This is because many consumers are hungry for the information in them, and they actively seek them out. These consumers are typically savvy about product reviews. This is to say that they know how to sniff out useful authentic reviews, and they can also spot dishonest ones from a mile away. So it is important to make sure that any reviews included on one’s site are honest, a balance of both the positive and negative points concerning a product. This impression of balance is important because it helps convince visitors to the site that the merchant is scrupulous. By their perception, a merchant honest enough to share both the pros and cons of his or his affiliates’ wares is somebody worth doing business with.

Consumers tend to read product reviews hungrily. Unlike many other texts online, they contain information that is actually useful to the people reading it. Their brevity makes them especially appealing. So does the simplicity of the language in which they are written. In this last respect, they are tremendously different from the technical jargon in which manufacturers usually broadcast descriptions of their products.
When settling down to write the product reviews, it is important to have in mind the target audience for this text. Ideally, one should have a sense of the type of person that is going to want to buy the product and, naturally, to read the review as well. The review should be written in such a way that it directly addresses this audience’s tastes, assumptions and concerns. The more in tune it is with the way this audience thinks, the more convincing it will be to the said audience.
It goes without saying that the person writing the review should know what she is talking about. She should have experience with the product and know its problems and good points intimately. Alternatively, she should read other reviews of the item to get a good sense of its positives and negatives. It would actually be good practice for her to read other reviews of the product even if she had used it personally. The kind of information she would get from this research would give her a well-rounded perspective on the product, and this would come through in her writing. It would establish her as a balanced writer of product reviews.
