CCTV Monitor Technology

| March 11, 2011

Having a good home security system is a very good idea.  CCTV video security is the way to go if you have a few dollars to spend on it.  That way, you can have the camera capture everything that happens at your property, and you will have excellent systems in place for capturing people and problems that you didn’t know were there.  The nice thing about video surveillance is that there are so many different options you are sure to find one that is catered to your specific property needs.

When it comes to capturing video images, there are a lot of different options you have for keeping track of what you’re seeing.  CCTV monitors look like television sets, but are actually designed for use with CCTV.  A monitor has different signal acceptors, and will not accept antenna readouts.  There are multiplexer monitors, which have full screen pictures from anywhere from two to sixteen cameras, and the images are all displayed across one single screen.  These are very good additions to the technology world of security cameras because they avoid the problem known as ‘switcher’s dilemma’.

This is better than a switcher option, which has the camera image switch out every few seconds so you see camera 1′s image, camera 2′s image, camera 3′s image, in succession.  This causes the switcher’s dilemma, which is the problem that arises when you see a door start to open on camera 3, and have to wait for the other two camera views to conclude before seeing camera 3 again, and by that time, the person’s already gone through.  This gets astronomically problematic when there are more than three cameras feeding into the same monitor.  Eight cameras will give you nearly half a minute delay between cameras if the images are all set to five minutes.

Home Security Alternatives

| December 10, 2010

Home security is becoming more of a concern as property crime rates continue to rise.  More and more people are beginning to look into their security options and take steps to better protect their homes and families.  There are many alternatives to help you better protect your home whether you have a traditional alarm system or not.

One alternative is to have a guard dog in your home.  Having a dog in your home can help you deter potential burglars because they are more likely to be caught in the act when the barking dog draws the attention of neighbors and passersby.  This will also help to deter home invasion because burglars want a quick and easy entry and exit from your home.  Having a barking dog inside makes things a little more complicated for the intruder.

Another great way to deter criminals is to fence in your property.  Adding fences and security gates adds an extra line of protection to your home.  Because you are making it harder for criminals not only to enter your property, but more importantly, to exit it quickly, you are less likely to be targeted.

Another alternative to actual security system and cameras is to install a dummy cctv camera system and place a home security sign in your yard.  Making your home look more protected can sometimes be enough to keep your home safe.  By placing an alarm monitoring sign in your yard and installing fake security cameras, you can help deter criminals.

You have many options when it comes to protecting your home, but if you are looking for alternatives to traditional security systems, these are some options to keep in mind.  These methods can help you deter criminals, but having a monitored alarm system will usually be you best line of protection.  Using these methods while already having a security system will also help you better protect your property.
