Most people probably think of money spent on home-decorating as money spent and gone – but his is not always the case. These are often of the Murano-variety meaning that they come from the Island of Murano just outside of Venice, where skilled glass-makers have produced fine glass objects for centuries. The typical Murano chandelier is an all-glass chandelier, which means that the arms holding the lights and the central stem is also made of glass – not just the crystals. We are talking about fine objects of art here, and you can tell if you have the real deal, by the certificate of authenticity that comes with the lamp. This will be signed by the artist who made it, so make sure you know whether there is someone on Murano by that name. The italian chandelier will keep its value – it will even increase – if you take good care of it and make sure it is excellent condition. This does not mean you shouldn’t use it though, just don’t subject it to any kind of abuse or hard wear. Follow the instructions of the maker on how to maintain and clean it – there are special procedures to follow for cleaning chandelier crystal – and only use original spare parts if you need spares for some reason. Originality is the key to uphold the value of any art object – or other object of value.
The only problem with investing in a chandelier, is that it will be impossible for you to part with it – if you ever do have to sell it. You will have to figure that one out for yourself.
