A- frame stands are quite sturdy as well as space efficient. Some of these have top support and some do not. Often the A-frames have flip up top support which works for portability.
Another feature to look for in a guitar stand is padding. Some of the lower end stands are made of metal without much padding. These do a fine job of holding a guitar but may not protect it as well. Other stands have foam or velveteen padding which help protect the guitar from bumps and scratches.
